An infrared light source illuminates a Michelson-type interferometer; the moving mirror modulates the beam to produce an interferogram, which is recorded by a high-sensitivity imported detector after passing through the sample. A 24-bit A/D converter digitizes the signal; embedded software computes the FFT to produce a frequency-domain absorbance/transmittance spectrum across 7800-350 cm-1 at sub-1.0 cm-1 resolution. The integrally cast optical bench, sealed interferometer and humidity sensor minimize drift and protect the multilayer-coated KBr beamsplitter.
