SED-6QW-A is a six-stage sieve impactor airborne microbial sampler. It mimics the human respiratory tract anatomy and aerodynamic physiology, using inertial impaction to size-fractionate airborne microbial particles onto
Como funciona
The impactor consists of 6 aluminium-alloy discs each with 400 precision holes arranged in concentric rings; hole size decreases stage by stage. An agar plate is placed below each disc; discs are sealed with O-rings and secured by spring hooks. Air containing microbial particles enters the top sampling port and is progressively accelerated through each stage. Particles of different aerodynamic sizes impact onto corresponding agar surfaces: Stages 1–2 simulate upper respiratory tract capture (particles >7 µm–>4 µm); Stages 3–6 simulate lower respiratory tract capture (down to 0.65 µm). Relative humidity increases from 39% at Stage 1 to 88% at Stage 6, favouring survival of fragile pathogens — especially viruses.
