Continuous inkjet (CIJ): a 62,500 dot/sec oscillation generates ink droplets at the printhead nozzle; a charge electrode charges each droplet, a phase detector confirms charging, and an HV deflector plate steers selected droplets onto the substrate; uncharged droplets return to the ink circuit via the gutter.
